Imagine, Moses standing by a bush on fire. He’s become comfortable with his life in the desert. He’s married Zipporah, had a son and settled in as a shepherd. His days growing up in the palace are a distant memory. Just when life seems to be going along smoothly, God calls Moses to action. Moses is about 80 at this point, an unlikely age to begin a new ministry, don’t ya think? But God has different ideas! When God gives Moses his new job description, Moses freaks out! Who me? I can’t! You’ve go to be kidding, Lord! But, God isn’t kidding and He asks Moses a penetrating question, “Who makes a person’s mouth? Who decides whether people speak or do not speak, hear or do not hear, see or do not see? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go! I will be with you as you speak and I will instruct you in what to say.” (Exodus 3:11)
Ever felt like Moses? Maybe God has been nudging you towards some new adventure lately. Perhaps, it’s tutoring kids after school or helping in a homeless shelter. Or, sharing Christ with your neighbor, or, leading a small group, or going on a mission’s trip. Everything in you is screaming, me? You’ve got to be kidding, Lord! Feelings of inadequacy are leaving you paralyzed. Take a moment. Stop, breathe. Then consider this, whatever God calls you to do He empowers you to do through His Holy Spirit. Find the courage to simply say, “Yes, Lord”. Then, take the next step and trust that God is with you.
I’d love to hear from you. What is the next step for you? How have you overcome feelings of inadequacy?
