What's Your Goal?

with 3 Comments

Goals.  I’m a huge fan of them.  I love “to do” lists with little boxes next to each item that can be checked as soon as it is accomplished.

In addition to reading through the chronological Bible in my quiet time, I am also reading Gary Thomas’s book, Thirsting for God. I highly recommend it. In his book Gary talks about developing goals in our journey with Christ.  He asks the question, “Can I measure my advancement?” In other words, how can I measure my spiritual growth? This hit home to me this morning, as I read Numbers 10:29, “We are on our way to the place the Lord promised us.” It got me thinking, “What is the place the Lord has promised me? and, am I getting there?” Certainly heaven. But, my relationship with Christ is not just “fire insurance” as my husband Steve says. No. I have been promised far more than that. I’ve been promised union with Christ. (Philippians 2:1, Colossians 3:3) As I was reflecting on union with Christ this morning, I realized this is the promised land for me.  My union with Christ has been fully accomplished through the finished work of Christ on calvary but, that promised union poses some interesting questions like: If I have union with Christ, am I like Him? That’s where the rub comes.  Because too often, I am not like HIm.  It’s too easy to take my relationship with Him for granted. So, if I am to enjoy the promised land, I realize I need a goal to keep me focused in my journey.  My goal is to passionately pursue intimacy with Christ and passionately share His love with others.  This is why I am so passionate about praising God, spending time in His word,   hanging out with the broken, and loving others.  So how am I doing on my life goal? Well…….some days go really well, and some days I have a lot to confess. But, either way, I stay in the journey!

What about you? Do you have a life goal for you journey with Christ?  Leave a comment and share your life goal and I’ll send you a free book mark to keep in your Bible.   If you leave a comment please email your mailing address.  I’d love to hear from you.

My small group was talking about this last night, what timing. My goal, peace, true peace in my heart & soul. Confidence. Being confident when the Lord puts something in my path, to take it on & not panic first. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

What a thought provoking post….as a busy career woman, I always have goals. Goals for my work, development (personal and professional)..but I’ve never thought much on how to evaluate the progress of my walk with Christ. As I approach my 9 year anniversery of being born again….’tis a good time to celebrate the growth…and think about my goals with Him. Thanks, Becky. 🙂 (I tried to catch you a couple of weeks ago….I’ll come by and introduce myself on Sunday morning at church.)
