The Beauty of Racial Diversity in the Body of Christ
Years ago, I bought a watercolor painting that had a portrait of a bride with flags all over her gown from different parts of the world. It was symbolic of the bride of Christ as being multi-ethnic and racially diverse. It was breathtakingly beautiful. Last weekend, I had the opportunity to witness that beauty firsthand.
I was the keynote speaker for Moody Radio’s BFF Conference in Chattanooga, Tennessee. It was simply breathtaking! As I looked out on the audience, I was filled with awe and worship as I saw the most diverse group of women I’ve ever had the privilege of speaking to. There were black women, white women, Asian women, Hispanic women, and women from India. What a beautiful tapestry.
Our weekend event began with a Sari fashion show with India Partners. After dressing women up, we were taught about the life of women in India and how God is moving there. The evening ended by worshiping Jesus Christ with dance, as they do in India.
Saturday, I spoke on moving beyond our loneliness. If we are truly going to Cultivate Deeper Connections in A Lonely World, we must learn to reach out to different cultures and seek to understand them.
In the book of Revelation, John had a glorious vision where he looked and saw people from every nation, tribe and tongue worshiping the Lamb (Revelation 7:9). Friend, it is imperative to understand that in heaven, we will stand shoulder to shoulder with all different ethnic groups. Our eyes won’t be focused on our differences. They will be fixed on the Lamb!

As you consider John’s words in Revelation 7:9, here are a few ideas:
First, reach out across racial lines to form deeper connections with those who are a different color than you.
Second, seek to understand those from a different culture who might be living in your neighborhood.
Third, praise God that the beautiful bride of Christ is multiethnic and multi-colored. How wonderful that God loves diversity! We can praise Him!
Lord Jesus, I praise You that Your body is so diverse. Help me to love well and not get fixated on the differences. Instead, I pray that You would fill me with Your Spirit so that I might build bridges of connections with others.
If you haven’t already, order your copy of Cultivating Deeper Connections In A Lonely World. Why not gather a few friends or acquaintances and form a book group around the study? It is firmly rooted in Scripture, and you can dive into what God’s word teaches about friendships!

This Week on the Connected Mom Podcast our guest is counselor Stephanie Rowe, and we’re talking about moving past church hurt. You’ll definitely want to listen in and pass it along to your friends.

Finally, I am booking for 2025, and I would love to speak at your event. Contact me if you’re interested. I can’t wait to meet you in person!
