Stay on the path

As Moses was winding down his his earthly ministry and preparing to die, he gave some last instructions to the Israelites. He reminded them to obey the ten commandments (Deuteronomy 5:1-21), He reminded them of the awe and power of God’s voice and that they  should hear and obey. (Deuteronomy 5: 23-27) And then Moses said, “Stay on the path that the Lord your God has commanded you to follow.” (Deuteronomy 5:33) Those words really struck a chord with me this morning.  It was as if the voice of God’s Spirit was whispering in my ear, “Becky, stay on the path I’ve called you to and don’t get distracted.”  The cry of my heart this morning is the cry of  King David’s heart in Psalm 119:133, “Direct my footsteps according to your word.”  You see when I am confused about the path before me, I consult with God’s Word, it is the roadmap for my life.

What about you? In your journey with God, are you daily consulting God’s Word as you navigate your path?  If you are struggling to find which way to turn next on your journey, spend time in prayer asking God to direct you. Listen for God’s voice both through reading His Word and asking advice from godly mentors. Keep a record of “God sightings” along the way. What I mean by “God sightings” is when you think God might have spoken, write it down. Keep a record of every time you think God might speak over the period of a week or two and then review all your notes to see which direction God is leading. Most important, stay on the path, committed to following in obedience.

Leave a comment. Let me know how you discern God’s leading. I’d love to hear from you!
