As I am celebrating Holy Week and journeying through through John 12-20, I have been thinking about the last supper Jesus had with His disciples. I’m guessing you know the story. Jesus – the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, wraps Himself in a towel and washes the dirty feet of the disciples. What a picture of servanthood to leave His followers.
Every time I read this story, I feel convicted. There are so many great books on leadership and how to successfully lead corporations and churches. I am not knocking these books – they are so very helpful as far as maximizing our leadership so that we have the greatest impact for the Kingdom of God. The rub comes for me when I look at Jesus. He was far more concerned with servanthood than leadership. He set an example for every person who aspires to be a leader and every person who has no interest in leadership. The principle is simply :serve others. As I have been thinking about this, I realize I need to think more and really consider how can I become a better servant? How can I serve others so that they will experience the love of Christ? I’m asking the Lord to give me a tangible idea this week for how I can practically serve someone else in the name of Christ? Wanna join me? Ask the Lord to give you a tangible way to serve and then leave a comment and let me know what you did. We can encourage each other with our ideas. Let’s see how creative we can be. I’ll choose from those who leave comments and give away a book.
