Praying The Promises of God for your Family

with 6 Comments

This morning, I read these words in Isaiah 62:6, “I have posted watchmen on your walls; they will pray to the Lord day and night for the fulfillment of his promises. Take no rest, all you who pray.” At the time Isaiah wrote this the city of Jerusalem was surrounded by a wall and watchmen stood guard to protect the residents from attacks of the enemy. Similarly, parents you are the “watchmen” of your children. As the guardians of our children we are to pray day and night for the fulfillment of the Lord’s promises in their lives.

Moms, there is great power in your prayers. You may feel God is not answering your prayers, but He is listening. As you consistently pray for the fulfillment of God’s promises in your child’s life the Holy Spirit is working behind the scenes to accomplish HIs will for your child. The thing is – you can’t quit! “Take no rest, all you who pray.” In other words, continue praying even when it gets tough.

When Steve and I were raising our kids, often we lacked wisdom. I remember many nights getting down on my knees near their beds, gently placing my hands on their little backs as they slept, and praying the promises of God over them. God answered those prayers beyond what I could have imagined and He will do the same for you. Here are some of the promises we prayed and I invite you to begin praying these promises over your children as well.

James 1:5 “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God who gives generously to all without finding fault, and he will be told what to do.”

Hebrews 13:5-6 “Never will I leave you, Never will I forsake you, So we say with confidence, The Lord is (put your child’s name here) helper; I will not be afraid.”

Ephesians 3:14-20. This passage is too long for me to print it all out but I used to and still do pray over each of my kids and grandkids that they would know the love of Christ and that the Holy Spirit would do exceedingly, abundantly beyond all I could ask or think.

I believe as we continue to pray over our children that God honors our prayers! Leave a comment and let me know what you think!~

I am grateful and in awe of God’s faithfulness! As I am seeking God at 2am about how to pray His promises over my adult children, I came across your blog…. As I read, the Holy Spirit brought to mind, “I will NEVER leave you or forsake you”. He reminded me to continue focus on moving forward as He instructs me, and He will continue to care for my needs… just as He will for each of ahis children.

It was placed on my heart to respond to you, and to encourage you. God is with you. He will NEVER leave you or forsake you. Tell Him specifically what you need with no embellishment… He is faithful! He will respond.
Jesus’ instruction to the disciples comes to mind… “…ask that your joy might be full.”

I can relate totally. I wish I could sit in silence and pray for 2 or three days.

I am exhausted praying for patience.
And the salvation of my husband

I needed this! It is 4 am and I haven’t slept a lot. I worry about my son. The people he has surrounded himself with are dangerous. He decided at some point that he’s a bad boy (he’s 20) and needs prayer. He’s dating a 16 year old girl who cuts herself and is very possessive. Because she swears at me she is no longer welcome in our home. We’ve been trying to help him but are failing miserably! God please help us!
