Praising God to Defeat the Enemy

One of the most effective ways I know to defeat the enemy in your life is the powerful combination of scripture and prayer.

The enemy has come to rob, kill and destroy (John 10:10). He wants to rob you of your confidence, steal your identity and destroy your faith. Here’s the good news:

You have all authority in Jesus’ name.

I’ve been thinking about this quite a bit in the past few weeks as so many, myself included, are feeling the battle rage all around. Fear seems to be on the rise. We need the reminder that we are victorious in Christ and we can be victorious over fear. One of the most powerful weapons I know is the power of praising God using scripture.

Scripture and praise make the enemy shudder and flee. One author years ago wrote that “Satan is allergic to praise.” When we praise God and use the sword of the Spirit (which is the Word of God), the enemy is defeated. Fear diminishes and courage rises.

Here are 3 prayers of scriptural praise to defeat the enemy in your life:

I praise You, Almighty God, that I am seated with Christ in the heavenlies. You have made perfect provision for my salvation through the shed blood and resurrection of Jesus Christ. I am now clothed in His righteousness and am complete in Him. Thank You that You have chosen me to be blameless and holy in Your eyes. I now claim Christ’s blood over my mind and heart. I renounce all lies of the enemy and embrace the truth that You call me holy and dearly loved. (Ephesians 1: 3-4, Colossians 3:12).

Lord Jesus, I exalt You as the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. I praise You that You have won the victory for me when You died and rose again from the dead. I ask You that You would give me the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that I may know You better and understand more clearly the hope to which You have called me. I praise You that the same power that raised You from the dead and seated You at the right hand of the Father is available to me. Thank You that all authority belongs to You and You have placed all things – including the enemy – under Your feet. (Ephesians 1:17-18, 19-21).

Lord God, I praise You that when fear threatens to take over my mind, You are my refuge and strength. You are my constant help in trouble. I don’t need to go far, even if the mountains give way and fall into the heart of the sea. You are in sovereign control. Thank You that I can dwell in Your shelter and rest in Your almighty shadow. You are my refuge and fortress. Thank You that I don’t have to fear the terror of night or anything that attacks during the day. I am safe in Your Almighty presence. Thank You that even when I encounter trouble Your presence is with me. I can rest in Your care. (Psalm 46, Psalm 91).
