O Come All Ye Faithful
I absolutely love this Christmas carol! While many hymns express our longing for God to come, this one reflects His longing for us to come. It’s a warm invitation to gather together in worship, celebrating the joy and wonder of God giving us His Son.
One of my favorite aspects of this song is how the second stanza draws directly from the Nicene Creed—a profound and beautiful reminder of the theology we embrace as believers:
“True God, of true God,
Light from Light eternal,
Lo, He shuns not the virgin’s womb;
Son of the Father,
Begotten, not created.”
When we sing these words, we’re not just affirming who God is; we’re connecting with the early church—a legacy of faith that dates back to 325 AD. In a world where many wrestle with doubt and question if faith still makes sense, this rich history can be deeply reassuring.

As we sing, this beloved carol reminds us:
It’s an invitation to come and adore.
Can you imagine? God, thrilled with His plan to redeem us, bends low, eyes full of delight, and invites us to come and see what He’s done in giving us His Son. Take a few moments to revisit Luke 2 and immerse yourself in the wonder of Christ’s birth. Let it stir your heart with awe and drive you to your knees in worship.
It’s an invitation to gather in worship with others.
Between holiday parties and endless to-do lists, it can be easy to forget the beauty of gathering with others to worship. Let me encourage you: plan to attend a Christmas Eve service this year. Bring your family, friends, or even neighbors! As we worship together, our faith is renewed, and we reflect God’s heart for unity and celebration.
It’s an invitation to affirm our belief in Jesus as God.
Singing the words of this hymn strengthens our faith. Declaring who Jesus is—God from God, not created but eternally existent—deepens our confidence in Him. When we affirm truth with our mouths, our hearts follow.
Take a moment now to worship:
Lord Jesus, I praise You because You are God from God. You are not created but eternally existent with the Father. What a wonder that You willingly came, born as a baby to a teenage mother. This mystery is so astounding that I can hardly comprehend it! But I bow before You in worship and adore You this Christmas.
Question to Consider: What does it look like for you to come and adore Christ every day?
Listen: Reflect on the lyrics of O Come Let Us Adore Him as sung by Maverick City and Chandler Moore. Let the song draw your heart into deeper worship.
