You were created on purpose and for a purpose! God has specific works designed for you to do (Ephesians 2:10). His desire is for you to live an abundant and fruitful life aimed at knowing Him and making Him known. You become much more effective when you find your passion and figure out how to use your passion for His purposes.
How do you unlock your passion? It’s starts with one simple question. What’s in your hand? This is the very question God asked Moses when He commissioned him.
After God chose Moses to lead His people out of Egypt, Moses had a panic attack. Self-doubt hit like a tsunami and Moses responded to God, “Who am I that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?” (Exodus 3:11). God explained to Moses that He would be with him and empower him but Moses wasn’t buying it. Finally, God asked, “What’s in your hand?” (Exodus 4:2). When his staff turned into a snake and then back into a staff, Moses felt a bit more convinced that God was serious.
Similarly to Moses, God has a purpose and plan for your life. You might feel doubtful that He can use you. Or you might feel as though you have nothing to offer. May I suggest that you start with what’s in your hand?
Take a looks at the gifts and abilities that God has given you and then use what you have to spread Christ’s love. Do you have a house? Use it to invite neighbors in and then tell them how much Jesus loves them. Do you have a car? Use it to run errands for the widow on your block. Do you have abilities as a teacher? Ask where you might be able to serve in your church. Can you pray and walk? Take prayer walks around your neighborhood and watch how God responds. Are you good with kids? Volunteer as a reading tutor in your local school. Can you bake? Bake some cookies and give them to a hurting neighbor.
Friend, just start using whatever’s in your hand and watch what God does. He’s the One who is able to take what’s little and turn it into something significant. I promise you, God has amazing adventures ahead for you if you’re willing to take a look at what’s in your hand and submit it to Him for His purpose and plan!
Here’s 2 questions for you to consider, what gift do you have that God might want to use? What small ability have you placed in His hands and then watched as He’s used it for His glory?
