Countdown to Freedom – Countdown To The Royal Wedding

with No Comments

It seems that the countdown to the royal wedding is monopolizing the news. People all over the world are counting the minutes and hours until Prince William marries Kate. I thought about getting up to watch the festivities at 2:00 a.m. but thankfully, my daughter said she’d record it!~ Why such a draw to a royal wedding? Perhaps, we all love a good love story. Maybe, we secretly long to be a princess, or prince. Whatever the reason many will be glued to the the TV tomorrow watching the magical wedding unfold.

The royal wedding reminds me of a story Jesus told about a wedding and a guest dressed in the wrong attire. (Matthew 22:1-14) At first, the story seems a bit harsh, until you learn that at the time of Jesus, royalty sent out clothing to everyone invited to a royal wedding so that the guests would have suitable clothing to wear. The idea behind Jesus’ story is that God provided everything for our righteousness. He clothed us in His righteous robe.

Some of us have spent countless minutes and hours worrying about whether we are good enough, or if we measure up. Insecurity seems to plague us. The truth is if you have received God’s grace, you are Christ’s chosen princess and you can wear your royal robe with confidence.

Isaiah 61:3 tells us three gifts that Christ gives us so that we might stand confidently as God’s precious princesses: A crown of beauty, the oil of gladness, and garments of praise. If your doubting your royalty tonight – read the story in Matthew 22:1-14 and then read Isaiah 61:3. Spend some time writing in a journal about the confidence that is rightfully yours because you are clothed in the righteousness of Jesus Christ.

And, when you watch the royal wedding, thank God that you are royalty because of your relationship to His Son – the King of Kings! I’m in the mood to be a princess!!
