Can These Dreams Live?

with No Comments

This past week, I had the privilege of speaking at the Blue Ridge Mountain Christian Writers Conference.

As I was praying and preparing, the Lord led me to Ezekiel 37:1-2.  It seemed such a weird passage to speak from at a writers conference, but as I meditated on those verses, I began to think about dreams. Not necessarily night time dreams, more so the dreams that God places in our hearts.

Writers dream of writing a book or getting published for the first time. I’m guessing you have dreams as well. Perhaps your dream is for your kids to walk with God, or you dream of God bringing a spouse into your life, or you might dream of retiring and serving God full time. Maybe you dream of leaving the job you are currently in and supporting yourself through some type of stay-at-home job. I don’t know what the dream in your heart is, but God does. And, God cares.

In Ezekiel 37:1-2, Ezekiel writes, “The hand of the LORD was on me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the LORD and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. He asked me, ‘Son of man, can these bones live?’ I said, ‘Sovereign LORD, you alone know.’”

Four reassuring phrases have caught my attention this week relative to the dreams in our hearts:

The Hand of the LORD was on Me. God’s hand is on your life. He sees you and knows you intimately. He is well aware of the dreams in your heart. If He placed those dreams in your heart, you can trust Him to bring them about. Press into Him and remind yourself that He is for you.

He Brought Me. Where has God brought you? He has you there by divine appointment for His purposes. You may not understand, but you can trust that He has placed you where He has you for this season. He is working.

He Led Me. Think back on all the times God has led you in your life. Remind yourself. If He has been faithful in the past, He will be faithful in the future. He is moving and leading, even when you can’t feel His presence. Trust Him.

He Asked Me. Every dream that God places in your heart will require a risk on your part. Just as He questioned Ezekiel, He will ask you, “Do you think what seems impossible is possible?” When He asks you, answer with faith. Then call for the breath of the Holy Spirit! With just one breath, He is able to bring your dreams to life.

Friend, God puts dreams in our hearts. Remember His hand is on you, He brought you to where you are, He will lead you, and He will ask you! Answer with faith and call for the Holy Spirit to empower you to do what feels impossible.
