Recently, I was reading the story of Esther from the Old Testament. Remember? She was the Jewish orphan raised by her cousin, Mordecai. When the king began a beauty contest to find a new Queen, Esther was entered. If you read her story in the Old Testament book of Esther you’ll discover that again and again, Esther “won favor” (Esther 2:9,15, 17). Eventually, she became the new Queen.
When a plot to destroy her people unfolded in the palace, Mordecai challenged Esther to approach the king and ask him for a favor. Esther found the courage to do as she was challenged but asked Mordecai to gather people to fast and pray for favor for her.
As I’ve been reflecting on this little story, I’ve been thinking about the whole concept of ‘favor’. I have at times asked God for favor. While God delights to give us good gifts, His favor is given for a purpose. In Esther’s case His favor was given to protect and provide for His people.
As you think through your week, start by asking God what His purposes are for you this week. Then ask God boldly for favor to accomplish His purposes! You’ll be surprised at how He orchestrates circumstances to put you in positions to influence others for His kingdom. As he positions you, choose courage. Remember, what He calls you to do, He empowers you to do. And, who knows but He has you positioned for such a time as this!
Lord, grant me favor this week to accomplish Your purposes for Your glory and honor.
I’d love to hear from you! When have you asked God for favor? How did He answer? Sharing your story will encourage others. So don’t be shy!~
