7 Prayers to Pray for Your Kids or Grandkids
Steve and I have just finished Cousins’ Camp with a bunch of our grandkids. We did all the things: hiking, hide-and-seek in the forest, swimming, capture the flag, an indoor trampoline park, mountain biking (just for the older ones), prayer, and Bible study. This morning, I spent time praying for them—that the work of God in their lives would continue.
I believe one of the greatest gifts you can give your kids and grandkids is the gift of praying Scripture for them. The book of Ephesians is a great resource for scriptural prayers. I have used it many times for my own kids and many times for my grandkids.

Here are 7 prayers from the book of Ephesians that you can use when praying for the young ones in your life:
May their roots grow down deep into God’s love.
Ephesians 3:16–19
Above all else, I want my grandkids and grown kids to know how deeply God loves them. It is knowing God’s love that will draw them deeper into relationship with Him.
May they be made new in their attitudes through salvation.
Ephesians 4:23–24
The work of Christ in our salvation continually transforms us. It’s not that our attitudes are perfect. Gosh, mine isn’t perfect— is yours? It’s that we are continually submitting our attitudes to the transforming work of Christ.
May kindness mark their lives.
Ephesians 4:29–32
May kindness flow not only from their hearts but also from their lips, and may their words build others up and not tear others down. We live in a culture that values snarkiness and sarcasm; we need a generation that rises up with kindness flowing from their mouths.
May they walk in love.
Ephesians 5:1
I often pray that their lives will be so saturated with the love of Christ that it bleeds out to others. I pray that whether on the soccer field, on the golf course, or in the pool, love would mark their lives.
May they be filled with the Holy Spirit.
Ephesians 5:18
The truth is, they can’t live out their faith without help from the Holy Spirit. I didn’t grow up with an understanding of who the Holy Spirit was or what He can do in our lives. I want something different for my kids and grandkids. I want them to pray the prayer that the Church has prayed for ages: “Come, Holy Spirit.”
May they stand strong in Christ in the day of battle.
Ephesians 6:10–17
The battle rages all around the next generation. The internet, social media, and AI all pose not just benefits but tangible threats to our kids. Beyond the internet, there are also other battles raging, including violence, skepticism, and materialism. I mean, the list could go on, right? Rather than freaking out over these threats, I train my mind to pray the protection of God’s armor over these kids.
May they pray and praise Christ continually.
Ephesians 6:18
I want them to know that they can pray wherever they are and about whatever is on their hearts. I want them to learn the transformational power of praising God.
Now, to be clear, each of these areas is a lifelong lesson—which means what God calls us to as parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles is a life of faithful praying for the next generation.
