The other morning, I read these words in the book of Proverbs, “I am weary, God, but I can prevail” (Proverbs 30:1b). As I read those verses, my mind went to several friends I know who are walking through dark valleys. They are weary in every sense of the word.
I am no stranger to weariness myself. There have been seasons of my life when exhaustion settles in, whether physically, emotionally, or spiritually, and I doubt if I can go on. Yet, when I have offered my weary soul to the Lord, He assures me that I can prevail.
Friend, you might be feeling weary at this moment. Perhaps, you’re weary from praying for a loved one when you don’t see God moving. Or it could be you are weary from worrying about finances and living paycheck to paycheck. Perhaps you’re weary from a physical limitation that you have begged God to take from you. Whatever it is that is making you worry, I have good news for you. You can prevail!
One way that I have learned to overcome weariness is to pray Scripture.

Here are 5 simple scriptural prayers to pray the next time you feel weary:
Lord Jesus, I worship you for being my sustainer. You have promised me that Your strength is perfected in my weakness. Oh, Holy One, I feel so weak and weary right now, but I know that You will give me the grace to continue on and be faithful. Clothe me with Your strength and courage so that I might faithfully continue in the path You have chosen for me. When I feel tempted to quit and give up remember that in every way you have been tempted like me, yet, without sin. You will provide a way of escape for me as I press into You. (2 Corinthians 12:9, Proverbs 31:25, Hebrews 4:15).
Holy One, thank You that Your Word promises me, that You give strength to the weary and You increase the power of the weak. Even though I grow tired and weary, if I hope in You, You will restore my strength allowing me to mount up on wings of eagles. I praise You that Your Word is eternal and trustworthy. Thank You that You promise that when I am too weak to go on, You will strengthen me, help me, and hold me up with your righteous right hand. I can count on Your promises, Lord, because You are faithful. You will provide everything I need for this day. (Isaiah 40:29-31, Proverbs 30:5, Isaiah 41:10).
Remind me Lord, when I feel like I’m too weary to continue, that You have called me and that Your presence goes with me. I praise You that you have given me authority and power in your name and even when I feel weak You are working through me helping me to lead others into discipleship. Thank You that I have the Holy Spirit living in me advocating for me and strengthening me daily. Thank You that the same power that resurrected Jesus from the dead is available and accessible to me as well. (Isaiah 42:6, Matthew 28:17-19, John 14:16-17, Ephesians 1:19-21).
Thank You, Lord Jesus, that in Your great mercy You have given us a living hope. Ah, Father God, remind me through the day to fix my eyes on hope. Thank You, that You shield me with Your power. I praise You that You are able to take everything in my life, even the discouraging moments, and make them work together for my good according to Your lovingkindness. Lord, I relax in You. (1 Peter 1:3,5, Philippians 4:13).
Oh Lord God, YOU are my strength and my song; You have given me victory. I lift up my eyes to You because my help comes from You. Father God, though my body may be failing me, You are my strength and portion. I will trust in You because I love You. You have never failed me yet, so I know that I can trust You for tomorrow. Thank You that the joy of knowing You is my strength. As I continue to press into You, Holy Spirit You will provide the strength and wisdom I need for each day. I praise You that I can relax knowing that You, Lord, are in control. (Exodus 15:2, Psalm 121:1-2, Psalm 73:26, Nehemiah 8:10).
