3 Ways to Celebrate God’s Abundant Goodness
Yesterday, a friend and I took the day and rode up to the mountains together. The vibrant picture of the gold trees against the vivid blue sky took my breath away. As friends, we spent time talking about how good God has been to both of us. We shared concerns and prayed together, and we praised God for the beauty of His creation all around us.
As I was reflecting on our day together, my thoughts went to Psalm 145:7–8: “They celebrate your abundant goodness and joyfully sing of your righteousness. The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love.”
As people of faith, we need to celebrate and continually remember just how good God’s nature is. He is gracious, compassionate, slow to anger, and rich in love. Those words are mentioned nine times in the Old Testament. Often, when life goes awry with suffering, God is the first to be blamed. Yet His nature is gracious, compassionate, and loving. It’s good for us not just to remember this, but also to make it a point to celebrate His glorious goodness.

3 Ways to Celebrate God’s Abundant Goodness
Thank and praise Him for His love before you get out of bed in the morning.
In those first few moments of sleepy wake-up, whisper thanksgiving to the Lord that He loves you completely. Nothing can change His love toward you. Research has proven that your first thoughts of the day impact your thoughts and attitude for the rest of the day. So, choose to set your thoughts on God. Intentionally thank and praise God for His lovingkindness.
Get outside and consider how creation reflects His love.
Autumn is a beautiful season to get outside and celebrate God’s creativity. The leaves are changing, it’s not as hot, and it’s a great season for hiking and observing the changing leaves. All of creation praises and glorifies God. Yesterday, as my friend and I were observing the “quaking aspens,” it looked as if they were dancing to God’s glory. Get outdoors and ask God to open your eyes to see His glory in creation.
Fill your home with reminders of God’s lovingkindness.
Even a lit candle can do this. I have a candle I love to light early in the morning, along with other reminders—whether that’s a verse hung on the wall or a cross on an end table. We often have “short-term memory loss” when it comes to God’s goodness. God knows this about us, and this is why so often in Scripture our instructions are to remember the goodness of the Lord.
Friend, this autumn, may I challenge you? Take a few moments every day to celebrate the abundant goodness of our God. He is gracious, compassionate, slow to anger, and rich in love!
This week on The Connected Mom Podcast, we’re talking about not doing the motherhood journey alone. We were designed for community, and families need community in order to flourish. We’re talking with guest Paul Gutacker.
