3 Reasons to Feel Confident in Every New Season

August is slipping away faster than I can wrap my mind around. Kids are back in school and the lazy, hazy days of summer are almost over. New seasons bring a mix of joy and anticipation. However, they can also bring emotions of sadness and anxiety.

As I’ve been thinking about the seasons of life continually changing, I have been meditating on Psalm 73:23-24, where Asaph writes, “Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory.” I love these verses because no matter how the season is changing in your life, whether you are filled with joy and excitement or dread and anxiety, you have every reason to feel confident.

The Psalmist offers us 3 reasons to feel confident, no matter how seasons change.

I am always with You (Psalm 73:23). Such reassuring words for every season, God’s presence is always with us. We are never alone. No matter where you are in life’s journey, God is with you. All through the scriptures, His promise remains, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5). His presence is with you as you send kids off to college and your heart aches as you let go. His presence is with you when you face a new opportunity and you are wrestling with self-doubt. His presence goes with you when you face a new diagnosis that feels daunting and scary. His presence goes with you: before, behind, above, and beneath.

You hold me by my right hand (Psalm 73:23). God has you by the hand, even when you squirm like a toddler. One of our little grandsons said to his mom as she tried to hold his hand in a parking lot, “I hold my own hand!” We’re all a bit like that at times. We try to do things in our own strength, forgetting that God wants to hold our hand through every new season, every transition, and every challenge. His Spirit empowers us to do the very thing we feel we cannot do. Just as the Holy Spirit empowered the early church, so He continues to empower us today (Acts 1:8). We only have to ask. May I offer this suggestion? The next time you are looking at a new season or task and feeling overwhelmed, pause and pray. Invite the Holy Spirit to fill you for the challenge ahead. It is a prayer He loves to answer.

You Guide me with Your Counsel (Psalm 73:24). Ah, life takes so much wisdom, right?! When we are entering a new season, we need guidance and counsel from the Lord. He is the author and giver of wisdom. Recently, I had a conversation with a young woman who is going through transitions at work. Her comment was, “Becky, I need wisdom.” The great reassurance from God is that if we lack wisdom (and most of the time we do), we only have to ask and He will give it generously without judging us (James 1:5)! Oh, how I love that promise!

Friend, as you enter new seasons, in every challenge that awaits, you can feel confident. God is with you, He holds your hand, and He guides you. Why don’t you take a minute and thank Him? Rest in these promises, and then walk in holy confidence.
